Operation Nebulae: Global Sting Takes Down Major Phishing Empire
April 18, 2024
A global law enforcement crackdown, led by the London Metropolitan Police Service and involving 19 countries with Europol's support, has dismantled the LabHost phishing-as-a-service platform.
Operation Nebulae resulted in the arrest of 37 individuals, with four arrests taking place in the UK.
The successful operation compromised LabHost's infrastructure, leading to the platform's shutdown.
The Metropolitan Police has initiated investigations on 800 users of the dismantled platform, which had a total of 2,000 registered users.
LabHost was responsible for the creation of over 40,000 fake websites, leading to the compromise of data from 70,000 UK victims and the theft of over one million passwords worldwide.
The Met has issued warnings regarding potential phishing emails misusing their branding in the wake of the crackdown.
