Polgár retired from professional play more than a decade ago but remains active in chess education and advocacy through her foundation, promoting education and equal opportunities, with no prior political offices.

Magyar argues these steps would give the Hungarian people certainty that power is limited, communal property is reclaimed, and the state serves its citizens.

Magyar's Tisza party claims a two-thirds parliamentary majority and envisions drafting a completely new constitution to replace the 2011 basic law.

Polgár has no prior public political career, and her nomination would signal a new direction in her public role.

The presidency is currently vacant after the removal of President Tamás Sulyok by Parliament, and Hungary elects its president through Parliament, where Magyar's party holds a two-thirds majority.

Polgár is a five-time Olympiad chess champion and long-standing top figure in women's chess, having led the women’s world ranking for 26 years and ranked among the top ten overall players.

Magyar announced on Facebook that he intends to meet Polgár on Monday to discuss the nomination and hopes she will accept the honor.
