A three-year crude-supply agreement has been signed to ship oil from Norway’s Johan Sverdrup field to Orlen’s refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania, with deliveries starting in September.

While Johan Sverdrup remains the main source, the contract also allows Equinor to supply other Norwegian Continental Shelf crude grades as needed.

Both companies note that commercial terms were not disclosed publicly.

Orlen’s president Ireneusz Fąfara says the deal helps stabilize crude supply amid market volatility and geopolitical risks that affect other routes.

The deal secures about a quarter of Orlen’s total crude feedstock needs across its refining system, with annual volumes ranging roughly from 5 million to over 9 million tonnes depending on demand and refinery requirements.

Equinor’s Irene Rummelhoff describes the agreement as part of strengthening European crude security and expanding collaboration on NCS production, gas supplies to Poland, and low-carbon projects.

Orlen’s refining network includes plants in Płock, Gdańsk, Mažeikiai, and two Czech sites in Litvínov and Kralupy nad Vltavou, with total capacities around 41 million tonnes per year.
