Poland is shifting toward domestic and regional defense production to build Europe’s largest land army and reduce reliance on distant suppliers, with defense procurement from domestic firms rising to about 30.4 billion zlotys in the prior year.

Notable collaborations include CSG expanding in Poland with MESKO, Dezamet, and Huta Stalowa Wola; Grupa Niewiadadów producing 155 mm ammunition with KNDS Ammo France; and PGZ partnering with Estonia’s Frankenburg Technologies for ultra-short-range air defense systems.

The strategy prioritizes near-term production of drones, ammunition, and other frequently used equipment, while ensuring access to high-end systems such as Patriot batteries, Abrams tanks, and F-35 jets.

The government views this approach as strengthening supply chain independence and resilience, ensuring frontline forces have reliable, homegrown sources of critical equipment.

The shift reflects a broader European trend to rebuild defence industrial capacity after the Ukraine conflict, emphasizing resilience, supply chain security, and regional collaboration.

Near-shoring defense capabilities to Central Europe is a key goal, aiming to build a regional ecosystem that reduces dependence on distant suppliers and improves NATO interoperability.
