Stellantis Recalls 636,000 Vehicles for Camshaft Chain Issues Across Multiple Brands
July 3, 2025
Stellantis is recalling 636,000 vehicles equipped with the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine due to camshaft chain issues, affecting models from brands such as Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Opel, and DS produced between 2017 and 2023.
Specific models involved in the recall include the Citroën C3, C4, Opel Corsa, Mokka, and Peugeot 208, 2008, and 308.
Drivers have reported unusual noises from the engine, which could lead to valve breakage or even complete engine failure, prompting the recall.
The camshaft chain is crucial for regulating valve operation, and complaints from vehicle owners have indicated noises that may signify potential engine breakdowns.
In response to these issues, Stellantis has extended the warranty for these engines to ten years or 240,000 kilometers and will reimburse customers for expenses related to camshaft chain problems, provided maintenance was performed according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
Affected vehicle owners will be contacted by Stellantis, and dealerships will utilize an application to assess engine wear and replace the camshaft chain if necessary.
This recall follows a series of reliability challenges for Stellantis, including previous recalls related to airbags and engine problems, leading new CEO Antonio Filosa to prioritize vehicle quality.
The recall will be implemented gradually across France and other European countries where these vehicles were sold.
