Red Alert: Extreme Heat Fuels Wildfire Risk in La Gironde and Charente-Maritime
August 11, 2025
Record-breaking heat continues to grip the region, significantly elevating the risk of wildfires.
In response to the extreme fire risks, La Gironde and parts of Charente-Maritime have been placed under red vigilance, indicating a very high danger of forest fires.
Additionally, Lot-et-Garonne is currently under orange vigilance, signaling a severe risk of fire.
On August 11, a fire broke out in southern Charente, prompting the mobilization of around 100 firefighters and significant aerial resources to control the blaze, which has already scorched approximately 60 hectares.
To mitigate the risk, temporary restrictions on activities that could ignite vegetation fires have been implemented in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
The prefecture of Gironde has raised its alert level to red for the upcoming Tuesday, while certain areas in Charente-Maritime are also under red vigilance.
