Agathe Guillemot captured the world road mile title at the Copenhagen World Running Championships, setting a European record with 4 minutes 22.74 seconds and moving into the world all-time top rankings.

She erased the previous European road mile record by 0.51 seconds, surging to victory on the final lap as the lead group stayed compact until 3:57.

Her performance slots her at fourth on the world all-time list and shaved nearly half a second off the prior European mark set by Jemma Reekie earlier in the month.

The event also featured a mixed team competition, with the United States winning gold, Australia silver, and Kenya bronze.

French fans celebrated the win, and Guillemot spoke in follow-up interviews about her emotions and prospects for the future.

A five-kilometer race was scheduled for Saturday afternoon, followed by a half-marathon on Sunday as part of the event program.

Several top athletes were absent, including Klaudia Kazimierska, Georgia Hunter Bell, and Nikki Hiltz, who did not participate.

Guillemot plans a celebratory break with the medal before preparing for major events, including the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing.

Despite moments of self-doubt, she remained optimistic, continuing to train and coming close to her French record, even nearly breaking the French 1,500m mark in a Diamond League meet.

The victory was described as a crowning reward after a season filled with frustrations and near-misses.

Other notable results included Naomi Korir, Adelle Tracey, and Linden Hall achieving personal or area bests in near-similar times.

Freweyni Hailu of Ethiopia finished second with a season-best 4:24.35, ahead of Mirriam Cherop (Kenya) in 4:25.71; Annemarie Nissen was fourth with 4:26.78.
