Google's Enhanced 'Find My Device' Goes Live, Expands Tracking Capabilities
April 9, 2024
Google has officially launched its updated Find My Device network, initially in the US and Canada, with plans for global access.
The service helps Android users locate misplaced devices, including phones with Android 9 or later and other supported gadgets, using Bluetooth proximity.
Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro can be located even if they are switched off, enhancing the network's capabilities.
The network supports finding objects with Bluetooth trackers, and compatibility with JBL and Sony headphones is forthcoming.
The Find My Device network now encompasses over a billion devices and introduces features like offline finding, Bluetooth tag tracking, a 'Find Nearby' button, and integration with Nest devices for in-home locating.
Google's rollout is leveraging crowdsourced data from Android devices worldwide, with third-party companies creating compatible tracker tags for the service.
The update aims to streamline the process for users to find their Android devices and tagged items, improving accessibility and convenience.
