Huawei Launches AI-Powered Watch 5 and Pura 80 Series with HarmonyOS 5

Huawei Technologies has unveiled its first AI smartwatch, the Huawei Watch 5, which operates on the fifth-generation HarmonyOS, representing a notable leap in their technological advancements.
This smartwatch is powered by HarmonyOS 5.1 and features the AI assistant Xiaoyi, which facilitates voice interaction, health data analysis, and smart search capabilities.
Coinciding with the smartwatch launch, Huawei also introduced its flagship smartphone series, the Pura 80, which is priced from CNY6,499 and features HarmonyOS 5.1.
During a press conference on June 12, 2025, He Gang, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, highlighted the rapid deployment of HarmonyOS across their product range.
Since the beginning of 2025, Huawei has fully integrated the fifth-generation HarmonyOS into its devices, including smartphones, computers, tablets, smartwatches, and headphones.
Originally launched in 2019 in response to US export sanctions, HarmonyOS has been installed on over 1 billion devices by October 2024, supporting more than 15,000 application services.
The public beta of HarmonyOS 5 began in October 2024, introducing over 30 updates and more than 200 new system features.
Huawei has reported an impressive average of over 400 app version updates daily, with users downloading or updating apps more than 7.2 million times.
Over the past decade, Huawei has invested more than CNY1.2 trillion (USD167.1 billion) in research and development, with last year's R&D costs reaching CNY180 billion (USD25 billion), making up about 21 percent of its revenue.
