WhatsApp Web Introduces Voice and Video Calls, Adds New Features for Enhanced Communication
July 28, 2026
WhatsApp Web now supports voice and video calling for one-on-one and group chats without needing a mobile app, and adds a dedicated Calls tab, screen sharing, reactions, and parity with mobile capabilities.
The rollout follows prior testing and a June expansion to group calls, with broader deployment to all users planned soon.
Calls on the web remain end-to-end encrypted, preserving security across platforms.
Enhancements include a noise-reduction tool, faster HD startup for video in calls, and a gradual rollout to all users as the update reaches them.
Noise suppression toggles are available to reduce background noise during calls, complementing existing Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum controls.
New noise cancellation can be turned on or off in call settings to improve audio clarity.
Waiting rooms are being introduced for group calls via shareable links, letting hosts approve or deny entry or remove participants; an option to require approval to join can be enabled when creating a call link.
Web-based calls include a waiting room feature, with hosts able to approve participants as needed.
Hosts can enable “Require approval to join” to control who enters a call.
WhatsApp posted a detailed blog update noting these changes, with information current to Handelsblatt standards.
QuickHD now delivers HD video within the first seconds of a call, paired with in-call controls for Voice Isolation and Wide Spectrum on iPhone, and background noise suppression for better audio.
Video calls start in high definition quickly, improving initial video clarity.
