Destiny 2: The Final Shape Expansion Drops June 4 with New Prismatic Subclass
April 9, 2024
Bungie has delayed the release of Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion to June 4th, from its original February launch.
The expansion introduces the Prismatic subclass, merging Light and Darkness abilities, and a state called Transcendence with new abilities and weapon damage bonuses.
Included in the update is Onslaught mode, defending the last city from The Witness' minions, and a new enemy type known as The Dread.
Players can expect 12 reprised weapons in the Brave Arsenal, craftable Exotic rewards from The Whisper and Zero Hour missions, and new exotic class items for customization.
The Prismatic subclass allows for unprecedented mixing of Light and Dark Subclass abilities, aligning with earlier leaks on Reddit about a new system called Prism.
Despite the expansion being a closing chapter for Destiny 2, Executive Creative Director Luke Smith indicates the franchise will continue beyond The Final Shape.
Leaks suggest Destiny 3 is under development with the code name 'Payback,' potentially eliminating classes for more flexible character abilities, but its release could be several years away.
