Tetris Forever: Classic Collection and Documentary Celebrating 40 Years Launches This Year on Multiple Platforms
August 27, 2024
Tetris Forever is set to launch later this year on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
The announcement for Tetris Forever was made during the August 2024 Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase.
This collection will feature a variety of Tetris titles from different eras, including recreations of the original 1984 Tetris and the 1988 Famicom version.
Notable games included are the original Tetris created by Alexey Pajitnov for the Soviet Elektronika 60 computer, Super Bombliss, and Tetris Battle Gaiden.
The compilation will also showcase titles like Tetris 2 + Bombliss and Super Tetris 3, highlighting the franchise's rich history.
In addition to the games, Tetris Forever will feature over 90 minutes of documentary footage celebrating the creative partnership between Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov and Henk Rogers.
This documentary aims to tell the 'true story' of Tetris, coinciding with the game's 40th anniversary.
The game is developed by Digital Eclipse, a studio known for its work on classic video game collections and remastering projects.
Digital Eclipse has previously produced collections that provide historical context for classic games, such as The Making of Karateka and Atari 50.
While the release date is anticipated before the end of the year, pricing details for Tetris Forever have yet to be disclosed.
Tetris holds the Guinness World Record for the most ported computer game in history, with 200 variants across 70 platforms.
Additionally, there are plans for another Tetris 99 Grand Prix event for Nintendo Switch players, where 99 competitors will vie for victory.
