Astro Bot Update Adds Cloud & Sephiroth, New Levels & Challenges
July 10, 2025
This update addresses previous issues following patch 1.010 and includes about 963 MB of new content, with all five levels released simultaneously.
Despite the new content, some beloved characters like Sora from Kingdom Hearts are still missing, though future updates might include more characters, depending on licensing.
The developers have expressed excitement about continuing to extend the game, hinting at further updates and possibly more games in the Astro Bot series.
Astro Bot has received a major update introducing five new challenge levels and two highly requested new bots, Cloud and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7, expanding its roster of PlayStation characters.
The update also features a new character, Atsu from Ghost of Yōtei, filling a gap in the game's representation of PlayStation icons.
The new levels, set in the Vicious Void Galaxy, include titles like Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, and High Inflation, with players able to access them immediately without additional downloads.
Team Asobi emphasizes that the new content is designed to challenge players' skills and patience, reinforcing the game's reputation for creativity and charm.
A limited edition Astro Bot-themed PS5 controller, which sold out last year, will be returning with slight modifications, including a new touchpad design, later this year.
The update also introduces special bots with unique personalities and abilities, enhancing gameplay and team dynamics, and offers a potential reward for completing all levels.
The game has been praised for its innovative use of DualSense technology and has maintained strong player interest without relying on monetization or paid DLC.
Players can unlock Cloud by rescuing him in the 'High Inflation' challenge level, and Sephiroth is unlocked after completing all five levels, with new trophies added for these achievements.
The update was announced by Studio Head Nicolas Doucet on July 10, 2025, and highlights the ongoing support and positive community feedback over the past seven months.
