Critical Role is transitioning from its traditional setting in Exandria to Aramán, with a new campaign structure, a rotating cast, and a West Marches style exploring this new world.

The upcoming season will be based on Dungeons & Dragons 2024 rules, with some integration of Daggerheart content, despite initial surprises among fans and the TTRPG community.

Critical Role emphasizes using the game system that best supports their storytelling, exploring both Daggerheart and D&D for future projects.

Critical Role's upcoming Campaign 4 will be led by Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan, utilizing the 2024 Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition rules, with some homebrew content created by Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins.

The season will feature a West Marches-style structure, beginning with an introductory four-episode Overture that introduces all 13 cast members and their interconnected stories before splitting into three smaller groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

The core cast includes familiar Critical Role members such as Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Matthew Mercer, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Travis Willingham, along with Luis Carazo, Robbie Daymond, Aabria Iyengar, Whitney Moore, and Alex Ward.

The campaign will feature a large cast of 13 players, including both veterans and new players, set in the world of Aramán, a land where the mortal population rebelled against the gods 70 years prior.
