Hideo Kojima has revealed that he has already written a concept for a third Death Stranding game, but he does not plan to develop it himself, hoping someone else will take on the project.

On his 62nd birthday, Kojima announced that Death Stranding 2: Death’s Shore will be the final game in the series, with a concept for a third game already existing but not being developed by him.

Despite concluding the main saga, Kojima expressed hope that someone else might someday develop Death Stranding 3 based on his existing concepts.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach was recently released and is considered a conclusion to the first two games, with Kojima viewing it as the end of his work on the franchise for now.

There is no official confirmation or active development of Death Stranding 3, and the future of the series remains uncertain.

Kojima is focusing on other projects, including collaborations with Xbox on a game called OD and a new espionage game for Sony titled Physint, and he clarified that he will not personally lead the development of a third installment.

He is currently working on two major projects: Physint, a stealth game inspired by fan requests for a Metal Gear-like experience, and OD, a horror title developed with Microsoft.

Physint is still in the conceptual stage and is estimated to take five to six years to develop, while OD is actively in development despite recent layoffs at Kojima Productions.

Kojima's interest in exploring new ideas has been influenced by his recovery from illness during the pandemic and his desire to challenge himself with new genres and IPs.

Kojima emphasized that turning 62 does not change his plans; he does not intend to retire and aims to continue creating new projects and engaging his audience.

Over 79% of players continue to engage with Death Stranding 2 after completing its main story, indicating strong fan attachment to the game's world.
