Niantic is launching a major update to Pokémon GO on October 15, 2025, increasing the trainer level cap from 50 to 80, allowing players to progress further in the game.

The update introduces new rewards, including increased storage for Pokémon, items, and gifts, along with new avatar items and higher chances of becoming Lucky Friends at level 70.

To facilitate this, the leveling system has been rebalanced, making level-ups more frequent and reducing the need for large XP jumps, with some tasks between levels 41-50 removed and replaced with new challenges for levels 71-80.

Despite the increased level cap, the maximum Pokémon level remains capped at 50, with new difficult tasks added from levels 71 to 80 to prevent players from maxing out easily.

From now until October 14, 2025, Niantic and Scopely are offering double XP from activities like raids and battles, along with bonuses such as extra raid and battle XP to help players reach higher levels before the update.

Existing players who have accumulated enough XP will be automatically boosted to meet the new level requirements, with their levels adjusted based on total XP, and no players will lose levels.

Players who reach level 50 before October 15 will receive special medals, a new avatar pose, and exclusive rewards for levels 40-50, which will become unavailable to new players after the update.

Niantic has announced that the level cap increase is the first since 2020 and will include new milestone rewards, cosmetics, and a more rewarding leveling experience.

The XP rebalance aims to make leveling smoother and more frequent, removing time-consuming tasks between levels 41-50, with the exact new XP requirements to be confirmed.

In addition to the update, Niantic is teasing its next season, which will feature new content such as the debut of Meta Metagross and the return of Mythical Keldeo in the coming months.

Players who reach level 50 before the update will receive special medals and a new avatar pose, while existing rewards like the level 50 jacket and avatar items for levels 40-50 will be discontinued, though already earned items will remain.

The current season, Delightful Days, continues with events like Gigantamax Butterfree, Shadow Kyogre, and Dynamax Chansey raids, adding excitement during this transition period.
