Riot Games Unveils Ambitious 2027 Riftbound Roadmap with Global Competitive Play Overhaul
August 5, 2026
Riot Games reveals the 2027 roadmap for Riftbound, detailing major upgrades to Organized Play that expand from local store events to a world-stage ladder.
The Organized Play overhaul introduces a multi-tier path: Nexus Cup and Riftbound Challenge Series at the base, followed by Riftbound Regionals, Riftbound Continentals, and ultimately the World Championship.
The 2027 plan, outlined in the latest State of the Game update, also covers new sets, launch dates, and organizational changes to Riftbound’s product line and competitive structure.
Nexus Cup will be a monthly local competition celebration designed to drive participation without forcing players toward the competitive ladder.
Summoner Skirmish will continue through the Radiance release but will stop offering byes as prizes.
Continentals are planned as three-day events where Day 1 is open to non-qualified players to earn Day 2 entries.
Radiance launches October 23, 2026, as a capstone set inspired by musical performances, featuring 180 cards including 66 Showcases and notable champions like Seraphine, Ekko, Ziggs, Jarvan IV, and Evelynn.
Challenge Series will provide monthly pathways for players to enter Riftbound’s Premier Play ladder.
The World Championship remains the pinnacle of Riftbound Premier Play, with further details to be announced later.
Anniversary and promo drops include an English Secret Garden Gift Box, the Riftbound x T1 2025 Worlds Champion Collection drawings in mid-August 2026, and the Gift of the Rift Bundle launching December 4, 2026, featuring boosters from multiple sets and an Akali alt-art promo.
Regional Championships will be renamed Riftbound Continentals and occur at four marquee global destinations each year.
Riftbound seeks broader accessibility and a clear ladder to elite play, with more Regionals and Continentals to support a global competitive ecosystem.
