As part of this effort, six categories of hidden risks in AI implementation have been identified, including inaccuracies, task-tool mismatches, and ethical concerns.

A hidden risks toolkit has been developed to identify barriers to safe AI adoption and outlines strategies for mitigating these risks, such as ensuring human oversight and assigning risk ownership.

Successful AI adoption also requires investing in AI literacy, providing adequate resources, and implementing robust risk management methods.

In a related development, OpenAI has introduced a new benchmark for evaluating health AI capabilities, demonstrating significant improvements in large language models compared to expert responses.

This initiative is structured around a three-phase framework: adopt, sustain, and optimise, which focuses on encouraging uptake, ensuring routine use, and promoting effective use of AI tools.

Additionally, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is partnering with Aneira Health to provide AI-enabled healthcare for women, with a launch expected in spring 2025.

In the healthcare sector, the US FDA is set to roll out a generative AI tool by the end of June to modernize its functions, while Health Innovation Hub Ireland has initiated efforts to develop impactful AI healthcare solutions.

To support these initiatives, guidance has been issued consisting of nine critical tips for leaders, emphasizing the importance of leading by example and fostering a culture of innovation.
