Germany introduced the Organ Donation Register (OGR) on March 18, 2024, to streamline the process of recording citizens' organ and tissue donation decisions.

The OGR, accessible online, extends its services to individuals aged 16 and above, and also accommodates stem cell and blood donation preferences.

The launch of the OGR saw immediate engagement, with 5,500 registrations within the first three hours.

A public discussion hosted by NDR Info on March 19, 2024, will address Germany's organ donation challenges and the OGR's role in tackling them.

The discussion will explore the potential shift to an opt-out system for organ donations and will feature perspectives from a transplant recipient, an ethics expert, and a medical professional.
