On the evening of August 17, 2024, four inmates escaped from the forensic department of the Bezirkskrankenhaus in Straubing, Lower Bavaria.

Initial reports indicate that the escapees threatened a staff member at the clinic before fleeing towards the Alburg district.

The escape occurred around 9 PM, coinciding with a local festival, which allowed for a large police presence in the area.

In response, the police have launched extensive search operations and warned the public in Straubing and surrounding areas.

Police Chief Wolfgang Stegbauer stated that all available resources, including patrol cars, helicopters, and search dogs, are being deployed in the search.

A large police operation is underway, utilizing a police helicopter to locate the escaped individuals.

Authorities have advised residents not to pick up hitchhikers or approach the escaped individuals.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the police emergency number 110 if they see anything unusual or encounter the escapees.

The men, aged 27, 28, and 31, were incarcerated for drug-related offenses and theft.
