As the captain of the International team for the upcoming Presidents Cup, Mike Weir is dedicated to both preparing his team and competing in the Rogers Charity Classic.

The Presidents Cup is set to take place at Royal Montreal Golf Club, and Weir noted that the qualification process is nearing its conclusion.

Weir explained that six automatic spots on the team are determined by world rankings, with an additional six selections available, and he hopes to include strong Canadian players.

To make informed decisions for team selections, Weir aims to gather comprehensive information about the players.

He acknowledges the mental toll of balancing his competitive game with his captaincy duties, emphasizing that his primary focus is on the Presidents Cup.

Weir admires Nick Taylor, who recently ended a 69-year Canadian drought by winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open.

Having previously served as an assistant captain, Weir has participated as a player in five Presidents Cups from 2000 to 2009.

Currently, Weir is competing in the Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary, where he hopes to become the first Canadian to win the event in its 11-year history.

The Calgary event features a strong field, including top-ranked players in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.
