Nelly Korda faced a challenging week at the 2025 Chevron Championship, where she struggled to defend her title and expressed significant regrets about her preparation.

Her performance began poorly with a disappointing five-over-par 77 in the first round, which left her far from the cut line and hindered her chances of success.

The tight schedule following the JM Eagle LA Championship contributed to her limited time for course familiarization, exacerbating her rocky start.

Reflecting on her performance, Korda acknowledged that her preparation was suboptimal due to travel and inclement weather, having flown in from Los Angeles just a day before the tournament.

She missed valuable practice time because of weather disruptions and restrictions on chipping and putting during the pro-am, which affected her readiness.

Despite making the cut and briefly closing the gap to four strokes from the lead, her hopes were dashed by back-to-back double bogeys.

Korda managed to rally in the second round, making six birdies in her last 11 holes, ultimately finishing tied for 14th, five shots behind winner Mao Saigo.

She concluded her title defense with a score of 70 on the final day, securing her tied position.

Looking ahead, Korda plans to defend her title at the Mizuho Americas Open in two weeks and aims to be better prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

Despite her past successes, including seven wins in 2024 and accolades like the Rolex Player of the Year Award, Korda recognizes the need to improve her game for upcoming majors.

Her future schedule includes the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open and the AIG Women’s Open, with a deliberate choice to avoid playing the week before the U.S. Women’s Open.

To enhance her performance, Korda intends to focus more on playing rather than practicing on the range, valuing her father's involvement in her training sessions.
