Mi Hyang Lee Dominates Meijer LPGA Classic with Stunning 8-Under 64 in First Round
June 13, 2025
Lee, who last won an LPGA title in 2017, completed her round with additional birdies on the 14th and 17th holes.
Akie Iwai made five birdies in a seven-hole stretch, finishing strong despite a bogey on the 17th with a birdie on the 18th hole.
Mi Hyang Lee of South Korea shot an impressive 8-under 64 to take the first-round lead at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Belmont, Michigan.
Lee showcased her skills with a remarkable six-hole stretch where she scored 6 under par, including four consecutive birdies from holes 5 to 8 and an eagle on the par-5 10th.
Completing her bogey-free round, Lee highlighted her strong performance by missing only two fairways, which aided her ability to hit greens throughout the round.
Karis Davidson from Australia, Akie Iwai of Japan, and Sofia Garcia from Paraguay are tied for third place at 66, two strokes behind Lee.
Minjee Lee, along with several others including Andrea Lee, finished the round at 67, while Lexi Thompson shot a 68 and Lilia Vu struggled with a score of 77.
Kim, aged 22, celebrated her strong back nine after saving pars early and then chipping in for eagle and birdie on consecutive holes.
Grace Kim of Australia trails Lee by one stroke at 7-under, having previously lost in a playoff at the same event last year.
Kim made an eagle on the 10th and continued her strong performance with a birdie on the 11th during her round.
The Meijer LPGA Classic serves as the final event before the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship scheduled for the following week in Texas.
Only three of the world’s top 10 players are competing, with the highest-ranked being Haeran Ryu at No. 5, who shot a 69.
