A sudden-death playoff will decide the qualifier if needed, and finishers from second to twelfth will be placed on The Open’s reserve list, starting at No. 3 behind the two original reserves.

Priority 5 includes players who tied for a qualifying position in an Open Qualifying Series event (excluding the Genesis Scottish Open) but did not qualify due to a lower OWGR ranking.

Priority 1 designates the two leading non-exempt players in the Official World Golf Ranking as of July 6 as qualifiers, followed by Priority 2 for a British Amateur runner-up who remains an amateur.

A 12-man, 18-hole qualifier will be held on July 13 at Southport links in England during championship week to determine the final berth based on the defined priority order.

Priority 3 covers players who missed a playoff at Final Qualifying, while Priority 4 targets those who missed by one stroke at Final Qualifying.

The first 12 players to accept spots will form the main field, with the rest added to a reserve list; if this qualifier existed last year, six would have qualified via the first three categories, 19 via the fourth, and four via the fifth.

The top two OWGR players in the qualifier will also top The Open reserve list, and if they gain entry to the main field before the Monday qualifier, they will be removed from the 12-man field.

The R&A announced the Last-Chance Qualifier for The Open, debuting next summer at Royal Birkdale, with the winner earning the final Open Championship spot.
