June 23, 2025
A new television series is set to adapt Janice Hadlow's novel 'The Other Bennet Sister', which centers on Mary Bennet, the often-overlooked middle sister from Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'.
Once released, the series will be available for streaming on BritBox in North America, as well as on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the U.K.
Filming has commenced in Wales, although a premiere date has not yet been announced; it may align with the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth in 2025.
Produced by BritBox, the series will consist of 10 episodes that closely follow the narrative of Hadlow's book.
The storyline will explore Mary's journey as she seeks her identity and purpose, stepping out from her sisters' shadows and embarking on a love story while navigating Regency London and the Lake District.
Sarah Quintrell, recognized for her work on 'Call the Midwife' and 'Doctor Who', will write nine of the ten episodes, ensuring a cohesive vision throughout the series.
The series will introduce new characters alongside those from Austen's work, featuring Varada Sethu as Ann Baxter and Indira Varma as Mrs. Gardiner.
The cast includes notable actors such as Ella Bruccoleri as Mary Bennet, Richard E. Grant as Mr. Bennet, and Ruth Jones as Mrs. Bennet, alongside other actors portraying the Bennet sisters and key characters from the original story.
