Inter Miami CF has waived midfielder Julian Gressel, allowing him to join Minnesota United FC.

Miami's decision to waive Gressel was primarily a cost-saving measure, as they hoped another team would assume part of his $1.09 million guaranteed salary for 2025.

With Minnesota United, Gressel will be playing for his sixth MLS club in nine seasons, primarily as a right wingback and central midfielder.

Minnesota's chief soccer officer, Khaled El-Ahmad, expressed excitement about Gressel's addition, highlighting his extensive MLS experience and competitive spirit.

Following this move, Minnesota United announced the signing of Gressel on April 29, 2025, after reports indicated they were likely to claim him.

Gressel, who has not played in any competitive matches for Miami this year, was excluded from the roster multiple times, indicating he was not part of manager Javier Mascherano's plans.

Despite his contributions to Miami's success in 2024, Gressel's role diminished under the new head coach.

The 31-year-old midfielder has an impressive resume, including two MLS Cup victories and being named the 2017 MLS Rookie of the Year.

Over his career, Gressel has made 242 regular-season appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 65 assists, establishing himself as one of the top chance creators in MLS.

In a statement, Gressel expressed his enthusiasm about joining Minnesota United and integrating into the team.

In a related move, Minnesota United is considering placing midfielder Hassani Dotson on the season-ending injury list due to a knee surgery he underwent in March.

As of now, Minnesota United ranks fourth in the Western Conference with 16 points, while Inter Miami is fifth in the Eastern Conference with 18 points.
