The Seattle Sounders, who qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup by winning the CONCACAF Champions League in 2022, will face off against Paris Saint-Germain in the tournament.

In a challenging group that includes Atlético Madrid and Botafogo, the Sounders suffered a 2-1 defeat in their opening match against Botafogo at Lumen Field.

Since their rejoining of Major League Soccer in 2008, the Sounders have become one of the best-supported teams in the U.S., featuring notable players like Jordan Morris, Clint Dempsey, and Obafemi Martins.

The current iteration of the Seattle Sounders, established in 2007, is the third team to carry the name, with the original team playing in the NASL from 1974 to 1983 and having ties to West Ham United.

Reflecting on their historical connections to American soccer, West Ham United will participate in the 2025 Premier League Summer Series in the U.S. this July and August.

The relationship between West Ham and the Sounders was highlighted when West Ham visited Seattle in 2016 and lost 3-0 to the Sounders at Lumen Field.

Former West Ham players, including Harry Redknapp, Sir Geoff Hurst, and Bobby Moore, played significant roles in the history of the original Sounders, contributing to their success during the 1970s.
