Miami Heat Retain Andrew Wiggins Amid Trade Talks with Bucks, Lakers Show Interest
August 11, 2025
This offseason, the Miami Heat engaged in trade discussions regarding Andrew Wiggins, attracting interest from multiple teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks attempted to trade for Wiggins but were unable to reach an agreement with the Heat.
Despite initial interest in exploring trades, the Heat ultimately decided to retain Wiggins, although his future remains uncertain amid ongoing discussions about Tyler Herro's contract extension.
Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra confirmed that Wiggins will stay with the team, highlighting the importance of his acclimation to Miami during the upcoming months.
Wiggins, who was acquired by the Heat from the Golden State Warriors in the Jimmy Butler trade, has a salary of $28.2 million for the upcoming season and a player option worth $30.2 million for the 2026-27 season.
The 30-year-old forward has also been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, with rumors suggesting they are interested in acquiring him without sacrificing their last tradeable first-round pick.
Wiggins has had a notable career, having played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Warriors, and Heat, earning the Rookie of the Year Award in 2014-15 and winning an NBA championship with Golden State in 2022.
In the previous season, Wiggins averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 44.8% from the field and 37.4% from three-point range.
While with the Heat, he averaged 17.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.1 assists in 21 games, but struggled with injuries that affected his overall performance.
NBA analyst Jason Timpf noted that acquiring Wiggins would significantly boost the Lakers' chances of contention, particularly in terms of athleticism and defense.
