Real Madrid's Sidi Gueye Joins Arizona Wildcats, Strengthens Top-Ranked Recruiting Class
April 30, 2025
Sidi Gueye, a forward from Real Madrid, has officially committed to play for the University of Arizona for the upcoming 2025-26 basketball season, joining fellow recruits Bryce James and Koa Peat.
Prior to Gueye's commitment, Arizona's recruiting class was already ranked No. 2 in the nation by 247Sports, bolstered by top prospects like Peat and Brayden Burries.
Gueye's impressive 7'4" wingspan positions him as an elite defensive player, capable of guarding multiple positions on the court.
As one of the youngest players in college basketball next season, Gueye is expected to be a long-term developmental project for the Wildcats.
During the 2024-25 season, Gueye, who is just under 18 years old, played seven games for Real Madrid in both the EuroLeague and ACB, averaging 3.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks.
The Wildcats are actively looking to fill roster gaps left by departing players such as Caleb Love and Trey Townsend, who have exhausted their eligibility, and Carter Bryant, who is exploring the NBA draft.
If Gueye and the other incoming freshmen meet expectations, Arizona could emerge as a contender for a national title following their Sweet 16 appearance as a No. 4 seed in this year's NCAA tournament.
Gueye announced his commitment during an interview with ESPN, citing head coach Tommy Lloyd's experience with international players as a key factor in his decision.
