Otega Oweh has officially decided to return to the University of Kentucky for the upcoming 2025-26 basketball season, a move that has generated significant excitement for head coach Mark Pope.

By withdrawing from the 2025 NBA Draft, Oweh's return is seen as a substantial boost for Coach Pope and the Wildcats.

Oweh made his decision just hours before the NCAA's withdrawal deadline, creating a tense wait for Pope and the Kentucky staff.

He shared the news of his return with Pope during a summer basketball camp at Kentucky's Joe Craft Center, connecting over a phone call while Pope was on a plane.

Pope recalled the moment with enthusiasm, noting Oweh's words, 'Coach, let's do this. I'm coming back,' which led to a celebratory reaction despite being airborne.

After reconnecting shortly after, Pope expressed his joy and pride for Oweh's commitment to improvement and his aspirations to play in the NBA.

Pope highlighted Oweh's dedication and appreciation for his current situation as key factors in his decision to return, stating, 'It's humbling to see how committed you are to getting better.'

Oweh expressed his determination to return, saying, 'There's no place I'd rather be,' as he prepares to don the Kentucky jersey again.

Oweh established himself as Kentucky's best player last season, shooting 49.2% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range.
