NCAA Probes Betting Scandal Involving Ex-USF Guard Marcus Williams, 30 Players Under Investigation
December 10, 2025
In October, the NCAA revealed it had opened cases involving about 30 current and former men’s basketball players over potential sports betting violations.
Robinson was previously ruled permanently ineligible for conspiring with a former Fresno State teammate on a gambling scheme centered on prop bets tied to Robinson’s statistics, including unders bets for a Jan. 7, 2025 game against Colorado State.
Williams allegedly provided points, 3-pointers, rebounds, and assists data to Mykell Robinson and urged bets on the over for those stats in multiple games.
The NCAA alleges former University of San Francisco guard Marcus Williams shared game statistics with a bettor, leading to eligibility ineligibility for at least nine of the 2024-25 games.
Williams’ agent, Paolo Zamorano, says Williams did not bet on games or his own performance and apologized for interactions with a former AAU teammate.
The NCAA has sanctioned more than a dozen players from eight schools for betting violations this year, with players at Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Dayton, and Eastern Kentucky also held out amid investigations.
