The decision to remove Clash comes as Overwatch 2 faces increased competition from Marvel Rivals, a new free-to-play hero shooter that has gained traction.

In light of this competition, Blizzard has scheduled a spotlight event for Overwatch 2 on February 12, 2025, to unveil upcoming heroes, maps, and significant PvP changes.

This decision comes in response to criticism that Clash often leads to steamrolls and quicker match endings compared to traditional Overwatch games.

While some players appreciate the fast-paced nature of Clash, others have expressed a desire for more variety in game modes.

Blizzard has announced the removal of the Clash game mode from Competitive Play in Overwatch 2, effective with the start of Season 15 on February 18, 2025.
