Former Portuguese Communist Party deputy and leader, Odete Santos, has died at 82.

Santos was a key figure in the Portuguese Parliament for nearly three decades, advocating for women's and workers' rights, and promoting equality.

She also played a crucial role in international solidarity efforts and post-revolution Portugal.

Santos' efforts significantly contributed to the empowerment of women in Portugal.

Her dedication and bravery were widely acknowledged, including by opposition leaders and President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Mariana Mortágua, coordinator of the Left Bloc, expressed condolences and sympathies to Santos' family, friends, and the Communist Party.
