The Chellaram Diabetes Institute in Pune hosted its 10th International Diabetes Summit, attracting more than 2,900 doctors from multiple countries for three days of dialogue on strategies to combat diabetes and its complications worldwide.
Key themes centered on managing diabetes complications, cost-effective care, emerging treatments, and the expanding role of technology in diabetes management, with sessions featuring international speakers from Mayo Clinic, UK universities, Austria’s Medical University of Graz, and Singapore’s National University, among others.
Over 80 young researchers presented papers in free paper sessions, competing for the Chellaram Foundation Diabetes Research Awards 2026, with prizes of ₹2,00,00,000 for Basic Science and ₹1,00,00,000 for Clinical Science.
The summit also highlighted the growing role of technology in diabetes care and included participation from over 70 Indian faculty alongside international experts.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Vinky Rughwani, with notable attendees including Prakash Bhoopatkar, A.G. Unnikrishnan, and Wing Commander Harshal More taking part in the ceremony.
Dr. Carani B. Sanjeevi of Karolinska Institutet received the Lifetime Achievement Award for diabetes research and underscored alarming findings from the International Diabetes Federation Atlas 2025 about rising undiagnosed cases.
Community outreach included the Run for Diabetes on March 15, attracting about 500 participants, with Milind Soman flagging off the marathon and delivering a motivational talk.
The summit offered specialized workshops on Artificial Intelligence in Diabetes and MASLD in Diabetes, along with a symposium on Endocrinology and Women’s Health, addressing current clinical challenges and research developments.
