CirculaRR Unveiled: A Revolutionary Circular Packaging Solution for Food Industry
April 27, 2026
The solution is designed to be recyclable within established paper recycling systems and has been tested by 4evergreen to verify circularity and recyclability.
The collaboration aims to bridge the perceived gap between fibre and plastic in packaging, accelerating circularity and reducing overall packaging waste.
A joint RDM Group–Dow initiative has developed CirculaRR, a fibre-based packaging that uses recycled cartonboard with a barrier coating derived from post-consumer recycled plastic, creating a fully circular packaging solution.
The material is drop-in compatible with existing packaging lines, lowering capital expenditure while improving environmental performance.
ISEGA certification further confirms the packaging’s suitability for food applications and adherence to safety standards.
The collaboration situates CirculaRR within the PPWR context, noting future requirements for recyclability by 2030 and targets for recycled plastic content to help brands meet obligations.
The product is made entirely from recycled materials—recycled paper coated with advanced recycled polyethylene—and is suitable for diverse food-contact applications including frozen fish, cakes, fruit trays, and dry pet food.
CirculaRR is ISCC PLUS certified for recycled plastic and carries ISEGA certification, confirming its recycled-content and food-contact safety.
Dow emphasizes advanced recycling as a means to produce virgin-like high-performance plastics from recycled feedstocks, complementing mechanical recycling.
CirculaRR combines RDM Group’s Multiboard Barrier with Dow’s circular polymers and advanced recycling technologies to deliver a food-contact capable packaging suitable for items such as frozen fish, cakes, fruit trays, and dry pet food.
The development supports regulatory and tax objectives by increasing recycled content, aligning with frameworks like the Plastic Packaging Tax and the EU PPWR.
A industry debut is planned at interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf (May 7–13), with prototypes showcased at Dow’s booth in Hall 9, C24.
