China’s top state science body unveiled a five-year blueprint for 2026–2030 that prioritizes artificial intelligence and other frontier technologies.

The plan ties frontier-tech advances to broader national goals for innovation and economic development.

It also emphasizes cultivating new scientific talent and strengthening basic and interdisciplinary research.

Priority areas include integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, life sciences and biotechnology, brain–computer interfaces, and controlled nuclear fusion.

The blueprint aligns with the 15th five-year plan and aims to boost R&D to keep China globally competitive.
