Kelluu Raises €15M to Expand Autonomous Airship Fleet and Enhance Defence Tech with NATO Backing
April 14, 2026
The round will finance fleet expansion and sensing platform upgrades to broaden both defence and civilian applications, including wildfire detection and critical infrastructure monitoring.
In February 2026, Kelluu demonstrated real-time integration with the Maven Smart System during Exercise Steadfast Dart 26 in Germany, delivering live video and geolocation data to allied forces.
Since 2024, Kelluu has been part of NATO’s DIANA program, selected from over 2,600 applicants as one of 15 members, with a STANAG-compliant data platform that integrates with allied C2 systems for a Common Operational Picture.
Kelluu completed two phases of the DIANA programme and was selected from thousands of applicants as a top 15 member.
The fleet has logged over 50,000 kilometres of flight, including 12-hour Arctic missions, delivering continuous, high-precision sensing as a middle ground between satellites and drones.
Kelluu secures new funding to optimize technology, scale operations, and expand its autonomous airship fleet, while Kelluu AI Labs advances geospatial foundation models for the physical environment to support defence, infrastructure resilience, and environmental monitoring.
Kelluu has showcased demonstrations with NATO Maritime Command and at the NATO Innovation Range Technical Demonstration for the Eastern Flank Deterrence Line in Finland.
CEO and cofounder Janne Hietala brings scalable tech-venture experience, notably with Valamis Group, guiding Kelluu’s strategic execution.
Kelluu participated in real-time NATO exercises, including Steadfast Dart 26 in Germany, integrating with Maven Smart System to provide live video and geolocation data to allies.
The funding follows Kelluu’s completion of two phases of NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) programme, underscoring validation from a major defence entity.
Kelluu, a Finnish deep-tech company, raised €15 million in a Series A led by the NATO Innovation Fund, marking the fund’s first investment in a Finnish company.
Lead investor was the NATO Innovation Fund, with Keen Venture Partners, Gungnir Capital, and Tesi also participating.
