RAAF Pilot Charged with Wife's Murder After Lawn Mower Incident in Queensland
October 10, 2024
Robert Crawford, a 47-year-old Royal Australian Air Force pilot, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Frances Elizabeth Crawford, aged 49.
Frances Crawford died during an incident involving a ride-on lawnmower at their property in Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane, in July.
Her body was discovered at the bottom of a retaining wall near the lawnmower on July 30.
Forensic testing is being conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding Frances's death, which has been classified as suspicious by detectives.
Initially, her death was considered a tragic accident, but police now believe she was murdered.
Under Queensland law, those charged with murder must apply for bail in the Supreme Court.
Crawford will remain in custody as he cannot apply for bail on murder charges in the Magistrates Court.
Crawford was arrested on October 10 and charged with murder and interfering with a corpse.
During his first court appearance at Ipswich Magistrates Court, his lawyer requested the case be adjourned to October 25.
Frances Crawford's family expressed their devastation over her death, highlighting her roles as a loving mother and valued community member.
They also emphasized the profound impact her passing will have on her three children, who will continue her legacy.
Detective Superintendent George Marchesini indicated that the arrest followed information provided by courageous individuals and the dedication of homicide detectives.
