Italy has announced a significant €13 million contribution to Ukraine's Energy Support Fund, aimed at restoring energy infrastructure damaged by ongoing Russian attacks.

The Italian Foreign Ministry underscored the importance of global solidarity in delivering effective assistance to Ukraine's energy sector amidst the ongoing conflict.

This allocation follows directives from Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, reinforcing Italy's commitment to support Ukraine during these challenging times.

Since October 2022, Russia has been conducting daily air attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, with the intent to disrupt civilian life, particularly during the winter months.

As of the end of 2024, Ukraine has managed to avoid scheduled power outages for New Year's Eve, although the energy situation remains precarious.

In September 2024, the European Commission announced an additional €40 million for Ukraine to bolster its energy infrastructure in light of continued Russian assaults.

Furthermore, in October 2024, Ukraine redirected €86 million from a European Investment Bank loan specifically for the protection and modernization of its energy infrastructure.

Ukraine is also planning to allocate 10 billion hryvnias for protective projects surrounding its energy facilities.

Despite the ongoing Russian attacks, the Energy Support Fund in Ukraine continues to operate effectively, providing crucial support.

Italy has also supplied defensive equipment to Ukraine, including air defense systems and armored vehicles, enhancing its military capabilities.

Earlier in December 2024, Poland contributed over €3.15 million to the Energy Support Fund, further aiding in the repair of Ukraine's energy system.

In November 2024, Germany pledged an additional €65 million to assist in the repair of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, contributing to a broader international support effort.
