Former vice president of Vila Nova de Gaia City Council, Patrocínio Azevedo, has been accused of 17 crimes, including corruption.

Azevedo allegedly used his position to benefit private real estate interests.

The investigation revealed a network of corruption involving bribery and material goods for favorable treatment in urban development projects.

A total of 16 defendants, including businessman Paulo Malafaia and Elad Dror, founder of Fortera group, face charges of corruption and influence peddling.

Over 300 million euros in real estate interests are at stake.

Azevedo allegedly received luxury watches and over 100,000 euros in exchange for favoring certain real estate projects.

The prosecution claims Azevedo abused his public office, compromising the integrity of the city council and eroding public trust.

The accused individuals will remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
