Berlin Film Festival Unveils 'Perspectives' Section for Debut Features, Awarding $53K Prize in 2025
July 2, 2024
The Berlin Film Festival, under new director Tricia Tuttle, will introduce a competitive section called Perspectives in 2025.
Perspectives will focus on international fiction feature debuts, replacing the Encounters section that combined experimental cinema and artistic documentaries.
Up to 14 films will compete for the Best First Feature Award, which includes a $53,000 cash prize shared between producers and directors.
The selection process will prioritize world premieres but will also consider films that have premiered in their country of origin.
Tricia Tuttle, with input from other festival leaders, will curate the film selection for Perspectives to spotlight emerging talent and unique cinematic voices.
The festival has appointed Co-Directors of Film Programming and a Chief of Staff to aid in communication and strategy.
GWFF will support the competition, emphasizing the importance of nurturing fresh talent in the film industry.
