Karla Sofía Gascón has made history as the first transgender woman to win an award at Cannes for her performance in 'Emilia Pérez.'

She also became the first transgender woman nominated for Best Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical/Comedy at the Golden Globes for her role in the same film.

Gascón wore a striking bright orange Saint Laurent gown designed by Anthony Vaccarello, which she described as a symbol of her belief that 'light always wins over darkness.'

Originally named Carlos, Gascón grew up in a humble family with limited opportunities, with a father who worked as a printer and gardener.

At the 82nd Golden Globes, she delivered a powerful speech advocating for freedom of identity and resilience against discrimination.

'Emilia Pérez' led the Golden Globes with ten nominations, ultimately winning both Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) and Best Picture (Non-English Language).

In addition, Zoe Saldaña won the Best Supporting Female Actor award, competing against her co-star Selena Gomez, while the film also took home the award for Best Original Song (Motion Picture) for 'El Mal.'

During her acceptance speech, Gascón passionately stated, 'You can put us in jail, you can beat us up, but you never can take away our soul, our existence, our identity,' encouraging others to embrace their true selves.

Although she did not win the award, which went to Demi Moore for 'The Substance,' Gascón garnered significant attention after 'Emilia Pérez' won Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) and she was handed the microphone.
