Delta Unveils AI Concierge, 4K In-Flight Entertainment, and Sustainable Fuel Goals at CES 2025
January 8, 2025
Delta Air Lines, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2025, has unveiled several innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing customer travel experiences.
CEO Ed Bastian introduced Delta Concierge, an AI-powered assistant integrated into the Fly Delta app, designed to provide personalized travel support.
In addition to the AI assistant, Delta announced a partnership with Uber that will allow SkyMiles members to earn miles on Uber rides and Uber Eats orders, set to launch in spring 2025.
During the keynote presentation, Bastian faced scrutiny due to a technical outage and a controversial video featuring an Airbus A350 involved in a prior incident.
Despite these challenges, the presentation highlighted Delta's commitment to improving the travel experience, addressing issues such as missed connections and lost luggage.
The event showcased a hypothetical passenger named Eve, illustrating the assistant's capabilities, including augmented reality guidance and a digital bag tag for efficient baggage handling.
Delta's inflight entertainment system is set for a major upgrade in 2026, featuring 4K HDR QLED displays, Bluetooth connectivity, and enhanced streaming performance.
The airline will also debut a cloud-based in-flight entertainment system featuring YouTube and ad-free content, enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Bastian emphasized Delta's commitment to sustainability, aiming for 95% sustainable aviation fuel usage by 2050 and collaborating with Airbus on innovative technologies.
The partnership with Airbus also includes the fello'fly project, which aims to have planes fly in formation to save energy, although regulatory challenges may arise.
Bastian noted that despite operating approximately 5 billion flights last year, only 20% of the global population has experienced air travel, highlighting the need for increased accessibility.
Overall, Delta's initiatives reflect a strong commitment to enhancing customer connections and operational efficiencies as it looks toward the future.
