Biden made these comments after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston, a ceremony attended by notable figures and supported by his wife Jill Biden.

The Kennedy Institute, founded in 2015 and celebrating its 10th anniversary, is dedicated to promoting civic participation, civil discourse, and educating young people about democracy through programs, debates, and exhibits.

The event was the largest in the institute’s history, featuring a replica of the U.S. Senate chambers, which Biden visited and sat in during the celebration.

Biden highlighted his close relationship with the late Senator Ted Kennedy, emphasizing Kennedy’s support during personal tragedies and his enduring belief in the power of democracy to overcome challenges.

Biden’s speech included a call for perseverance and civic engagement, inspired by Kennedy’s legacy and his own long career in public service, which includes roles in the Judiciary and Foreign Relations Committees, as Vice President, and President.

He expressed hope that his presidential library will inspire future generations to uphold democratic values and fight for democracy, echoing Kennedy’s belief in the nation’s resilience.

The event also honored other notable figures, including former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Admiral Lisa Franchetti, for their leadership and contributions to public service.

Biden plans to continue political engagement by participating in upcoming Democratic Party events in Nebraska, despite his recent presidency ending earlier this year at age 82, making him the oldest U.S. president in history.
