Season 2 of The Last Thing He Told Me will adapt Laura Dave’s forthcoming sequel, The First Time I Saw Him, as its source material, continuing the show’s adaptation of Dave’s works.

Ahead of the premiere, a prequel novella/sequel titled The First Time I Saw Him will be released January 6, 2026, and will be available on Apple Books.

The series, which is based on Laura Dave’s novel The Last Thing He Told Me, with the book originally published in 2021 and a sequel releasing in early 2026, remains centered on Hannah and her efforts following the disappearance of her husband.

The show centers on Hannah, a housewife who investigates her husband Owen’s disappearance amid an embezzlement scandal, while navigating her relationship with her stepdaughter Bailey.

Apple TV+ is promoting its broader Hello Sunshine slate and international availability, highlighting subscription details.

Season 2 brings back Jennifer Garner, Angourie Rice, David Morse, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, with Judy Greer and Rita Wilson joining the cast; Aisha Tyler will not return.

Jennifer Garner will reprise Hannah, Angourie Rice returns as Bailey, and David Morse and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau also return; additional cast members include Judy Greer and Rita Wilson.

The ensemble cast for Season 2 also includes Augusto Aguilera, Josh Hamilton, Nick Hargrove, Michael Galante, John Noble, Michael Hyatt, and Luke Kirby.

Production is led by 20th Television and Hello Sunshine (Candle Media), with Laura Dave as creator/adaptor and Josh Singer as co-creator; Season 1 concluded with Owen signaling his presence to Hannah.

Season 2 will follow the constraint of Owen staying away from Bailey and Hannah as the story potentially shifts from a limited series to an ongoing drama.

The Last Thing He Told Me was renewed for a second season after strong first-season viewership, which set a platform record for Apple TV+ as the most-watched limited series at the time.

Season 2 will continue the narrative, with Hannah and Bailey aiming to reunite their family as they confront Owen’s hidden past.
