$10M Canberra Heist: Four French Nationals Charged; Rare Watches Still Missing
December 11, 2025
A group of four French nationals have been charged over a Canberra burglary worth around $10 million, with several high-value items still missing, including a rare RM88 Smiley Richard Mille watch and two Patek Philippe watches.
The alleged theft also included Hermes handbags, rings, and other jewelry, with the total value surpassing $10 million.
Australian Federal Police and French authorities have recovered some items, including Hermes bags, in France, and shipments were coordinated to bring belongings home; investigators are still seeking several high-value pieces, notably the RM88 Smiley watch and two Patek Philippe watches (5711 Tiffany and 5711 40th anniversary).
Arrests occurred in Sydney days after the burglary, with CCTV showing two suspects entering the property and a rented vehicle linked to the group, later traced to a Wentworthville short-term rental and a Sydney KFC.
All four suspects were arrested at a Wentworthville fast-food restaurant, extradited to the ACT, and charged with aggravated burglary—intent to commit theft and joint commission theft.
The four men were extradited to the ACT on a date in October, and the case is slated for January court proceedings following a suppression order that was lifted today.
Authorities are seeking public help to locate the remaining distinctive and valuable items, coordinating with NSW Police, French authorities, and the AFP to recover assets across Australia and France.
Police recovered several stolen items within five days, including multiple Hermès handbags, from a Wentworthville short-term rental in western Sydney.
Authorities say the suspects traveled to Australia specifically to steal the items, breaking into a home last month and removing about 70 luxury items such as handbags, necklaces, rings, and watches.
