Qantas Revives Last A380 for Daily Sydney-Dallas Flights After Extensive Overhaul
December 5, 2025
Qantas is bringing its final superjumbo A380 back into service after almost six years in storage to operate daily flights on the Sydney–Dallas route.
Engineers completed more than 100,000 hours of work, including extensive checks, heavy maintenance, landing gear replacement, a full cabin refresh, and an assessment flight to ready the aircraft for return to service.
When it lands again, the A380 will have been away from Australian soil for nearly 2,000 days, marking a major milestone for Qantas’ international operations.
The renewal features a full cabin refresh and reconfiguration, with a refurbished First cabin and upper-deck lounge, plus more premium seats in Business and Premium Economy, representing one of Qantas’ largest maintenance checks in its 105-year history.
Last year the A380 fleet carried over one million passengers on international routes, and its return will boost seating on long-haul destinations like Dallas, Singapore, and Johannesburg.
During the Christmas period the A380 will operate as an operational spare, and from January 1 it will enable daily Sydney–Dallas flights, expanding international capacity and enabling one-stop connections to about 230 US destinations through the American Airlines partnership.
