Kmart has issued a recall for its Anko glass flip-pickle jars due to serious explosion concerns, confirming that injuries have occurred.

This recall affects glass pickle jars sold nationwide between February 15, 2023, and March 3, 2025.

In one alarming incident from 2024, a woman experienced an explosion that sent glass flying, narrowly missing her eye.

Sally Asplin shared a photo on Facebook of her shattered jar, which left beetroot splattered across her fridge after the explosion.

Customers are advised to stop using the jars immediately and return them to any Kmart store for a refund, regardless of whether they have a receipt.

For consumers who cannot return the product, or have sold or gifted it, Kmart encourages them to reach out for assistance.

The jars, which gained popularity on TikTok for their ability to separate pickles from juice, have received mixed feedback from users.

While some customers reported difficulties opening their jars, others claimed they had no issues and would continue using the product.

The recall follows multiple serious incidents where the jars exploded, posing a risk of lacerations and other injuries.

Food Safety NZ has also warned that the jars can break if used to store certain fruits or vegetables in liquid, leading to similar gas buildup.
