Australian Welfare Payments Set for Major Boost in 2025, Benefiting Millions
March 9, 2025
Beginning March 20, 2025, millions of Australians on welfare will see significant boosts to their payments due to new indexation changes.
Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth highlighted the government's commitment to alleviating cost of living pressures for Australians.
These increases will benefit over five million recipients, including pensioners, renters, and job seekers.
Rishworth noted that strengthening the social security system has been a priority over the past three years to support Australians at various life stages.
The maximum single rate for the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, and Carer Payment will increase by $4.60, bringing it to $1,149.00 per fortnight.
As a result of these changes, a single pensioner will receive an additional $3,913 annually, while couples will see a combined increase of $5,902.
JobSeeker payments will also rise, increasing by $3,374 to a total of $5,038, with single parents expected to gain over $7,500 annually.
To further enhance the social security system, the Labor government allocated $11.5 billion in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 federal budgets.
