The Rolling Stones, alongside various artists, have released a tribute album titled 'A Tribute to the King' honoring Zydeco legend Clifton Chenier.

This project was orchestrated by Valcour Records founder Joel Savoy, with contributions from Los Lobos' Steve Berlin and executive producer John Leopold, highlighting Chenier's significant influence on Zydeco and American music.

The first single from the album, 'Release Me,' features a duet by Lucinda Williams and Tommy McLain, maintaining the authentic Zydeco feel with contributions from Keith Frank.

A special tribute performance is scheduled for May 2, 2025, at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, featuring the 'Dockside Allstars' and other artists connected to the album.

The band's history includes collaborations with Louisiana musicians such as Dr. John and Aaron Neville, further emphasizing their deep ties to the region's musical heritage.

Valcour Records, established in 2006, aims to elevate Louisiana's musical heritage and continues to connect local culture with a global audience through this tribute.

Produced by C.C. Adcock, 'Release Me' captures the essence of a complicated relationship while honoring Chenier's original 1969 version.

During Jazz Fest, an exhibit titled 'The King at 100' will showcase rare photos and personal items from Chenier's life, including his accordion and stage outfits.

Clifton Chenier's music career, which began in 1955 with the hit 'Eh, ‘tite Fille,' blended blues, R&B, and Louisiana Creole music until his passing in 1987.

All proceeds from the tribute album will support the Clifton Chenier Memorial Scholarship, aimed at assisting students studying traditional Zydeco music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

On April 24, 2025, the merchandise collection associated with the album was unveiled at the Rolling Stones' RS No.9 Carnaby Street store in London and is now available for purchase online.

The Rolling Stones have a longstanding connection to Zydeco music, having attended concerts in Louisiana and collaborating with artists like Dwayne Dopsie at the 2024 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
